Richard (Jake) Jacobs

2013

Richard “Jake” Jacobs was inducted into the Top Gun Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2013. For eighteen years Jake has competed in senior softball from the early days in La Mesa to World Championships in Las Vegas. With a handshake, 2012 HOF member Bill “Chappy” Chapman invited Jake to cut his teeth in Senior Softball by competing in Overland Park, Kansas with his team called “FHP”. 2010 HOF member John Irig encouraged Jake to get more involved in Top Gun Senior Softball and talked him into managing the Top Gun 60’s team during the 2000 season and he coached the team for six seasons. Jake’s accomplishments as a player/manager include the 2005 Huntsman Game Championship title for the 65 AAA division. Jake also competed with 2011 HOF member Bob Johnson and his 50+ team in 2003 to capture the Huntsman Game Championships. John Irig described Jake as a true representative of Top Gun Senior Softball on and off the field. John further exclaimed about Jake’s contribution to the Top Gun Senior Softball Association by serving on the Board of Directors. Jake joined forces with HOF member Red Simmons in 2007 and enjoyed a great partnership for many seasons. For six years, Jake amassed six National titles and two Spring World Championships while playing with Red’s team. When 2010 HOF Member Red Simmons introduced Jake, he described him as the complete player and a consummate teammate. Whatever the situation called for Jake would give it his all and compete at the highest level. Kevin Evans shared that Jake was one of the key members of the Top Gun Senior Softball Association that spurred the organizations growth and success for all these years. It was not uncommon for Jake to invite other players regardless of their age and skill level to join the Top Gun Senior Softball family. It is due in part to his support that the Association has achieved so much. Congratulations to Richard “Jake” Jacobs as the newest member in the class of 2013 Top Gun Hall of Fame Members.
